School of the Naked Dog's Newsletter -- April 2011
====================================================

Welcome to the Easter Edition of the newsletter.

Easter Dog ImageBe sure to remind everyone in your family of the danger of feeding your dog Easter Chocolate. Chocolate contains theobromine, a stimulant related to caffeine, that´s harmless to us but toxic to dogs. It can cause vomiting and diarrhea, restlessness and hyperactivity, excessive thirst and increased urination, a rapid heart rate and excessive panting. Larger amounts can be fatal. Although the greatest risk comes from cooking chocolate it isKids plus Easter's chocolate availability that creates added risk. Call your vet (after hours if it's a Sunday and holiday!! You know what THAT means!) if your dog shows any of these signs.

Do you have a rabbit? Train Your Bunny to Sit in an Easter Basket--  Enjoy Easter with a real Easter Bunny—yours!

Bite Prevention LogoHeads up for the International Dog Bite Prevention week in May

The Auckland little boy whose dogbite may have  been prevented by the fun  lessons included in the Dog Bite Prevention Programme--Doggone Safe.

If you have a living room full of kids, or know a few cub scouts or a classroom that would like us to come and present during the month of May, let us know. We GUARANTEE that kids will have fun learning about being a Dog Detective!

Earthquake Refugee

We have been taking care of one earthquake refugee. Sable, the little brown mixed up breed bitsa dog has fitted in very well. She lets us know when ever  there is an aftershock learning to  bark at their intensity. One bark for a 3.1 aftershock and more barks for an over 4! Better and Faster than GEONET!

Dog Training Tip
Walk by my food dish and drop a treat for me
Convince your dog that people approaching his dish are there to give, not take away. What you add should be better than what is already there. Your dog should want you to come back more often.
