Ian has a very informative website called Dog Star Daily.

Training Tip
--------------

Find ways to keep me busy. Dogs need interesting and fun activities. Look for toys that require some thinking to make them work. Play hide and seek with food treats, toys, or people. Consider activities or training that make use of your dog's natural abilities such as retrieving, herding, or scenting.

Behaviour Quiz
--------------

Your 6 month old female Skye Terrier has started to act as if she is fearful when people reach to pet her. She has never been smacked in her life, so being hand-shy has no cause that you can think of. She is very friendly otherwise and you want her to be a happy family pet.

What can help her overcome this?

Last Newsletter Quiz's answer:
What is the most inviting movement a human can make to attract most dogs to come toward them?

C. Take a step away from him while standing with one side toward him and immediately crouch down and clap your hand.

Babies Understand "Dog Speak"

A study was recently released from Utah's Brigham Young University which shows that babies from 6 to 9 months old can understand how canines communicate.

The study worked with infants who had never been around dogs before and determined that the children could match the friendly stance of a dog to a friendly bark, or the photo of an aggressive stance of the same dog to a warning bark.

BYU psychology professor Ross Flom, lead author of the study, said, "We chose dogs because they are highly communicative creatures both in their posture and the nature
of their bark. "

BYU's Infant Development Lab researchers wanted to find if infants could understand the emotions of communication before their ability to speak. The complete findings were published in the July edition of "Developmental Psychology."

Non- Doggie, but we just needed to add this one..........
--------------------

This video shows the winner of "Ukraines Got Talent" , Kseniya Simonova, 24, drawing a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table showing how ordinary people were affected by the German invasion during World War II.   Her talent, which admittedly is a strange one, is mesmeric to watch.

The images, projected onto a large screen, moved many in the audience to tears and she won the top prize of about $130,000  She begins by creating a scene showing a couple sitting holding hands on a bench under a starry sky, but then warplanes appear and the happy scene is obliterated.  A powerful communicative animated art form.

Happy Training...

All the best,
Natalie and Blair
