School News
--------------
Natalie is heading to Rock Springs, Georgia to attend Suzanne Clothier's Relationship Centered Training Approach Seminar . Suzanne is a speaker, author and renowned trainer . One of our favourite quote from her: " The strongest leash of all is that invisible leash that connects one heart to another, and it's built of love & trust. Dogs who wear collars do not have to wear them forever. The need for leads and collars begins to disappear as training progresses." It's featured on our website. Natalie will be back in September. Blair will take the classes.

Dog Training Tip
--------------
Give me a treat when you touch my collar. Grabbing your dog's collar is naturally frightening because a hand is darting quickly toward this face. Prevent this fear by pairing collar touching from one hand, say "Gotcha" and treat from the other. Recall can be improved by practicing this in distracting environments and adding a release command "Go Play". The release IS the reward. Collar-holding should always be done gently and only when you are not angry.

Denise Fenzi on hunt drive for scent articles "Practicing scent articles can be boring once the dog knows them. Here, Raika is using hunt drive; before she can find the 'correct' article she must find the entire pile of articles somewhere on my property. In this example she is very fast; sometimes it takes her several minutes. Raika does not receive an additional reward for completing the exercise because the game itself is reward enough"
